Who we are
Filmatic (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website itsfilmatic.com. Filmatic is an independent film-recommendation project operated from within the European Union, and is the data controller responsible for your information. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@itsfilmatic.com.
The short version
- We don’t require accounts or logins. Films you save (your watchlist) are stored only in your own browser — we never receive them.
- We use analytics to understand what’s useful and to improve our film recommendations.
- We never sell your personal information, and we don’t run advertising trackers.
- In the EU/EEA and the UK, non-essential analytics cookies load only if you accept them. Everywhere, you can opt out.
What we collect, why, and our legal basis
Google Analytics 4 (via Google Site Kit)
Pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location (country/region), and on-site interactions, using Google Analytics cookies (_ga). Purpose: to understand traffic and improve the site. Legal basis (EU/EEA, UK): your consent. Provider / transfer: Google; data may be processed in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
Recommendation analytics (first-party, privacy-friendly)
When you use the film quiz, we record which answers you chose and which films were shown, saved, or clicked, linked to a random ID that exists only in your browser’s memory for that visit (it is never written to your device and is gone when you close the tab). We do not collect your name, email, IP address, device fingerprint, or any cross-site identifier, and we set no cookies for this. Purpose: to measure whether our recommendations are helpful and improve them. Retention: raw records are deleted after 90 days; only anonymous aggregate statistics are kept. This data stays on our own servers and is not shared with third parties. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the service (no cookies or identifiers are stored on your device); you can opt out at any time.
Newsletter (Beehiiv)
If you subscribe, your email address, handled by our newsletter provider Beehiiv. Legal basis: consent. You can unsubscribe from any email.
Watchlist (your browser only)
Films you save are stored in your browser’s local storage. We do not receive or store this information; clearing your browser data removes it.
Affiliate links (ThirstyAffiliates)
Some links to streaming or retail services are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you (see “Affiliate disclosure” below). Clicks may be logged for attribution.
Security and infrastructure
Our security plugin (Wordfence) and our hosting/CDN keep server and security logs, which include IP addresses, to protect and operate the site. Depending on the provider, these may be stored on servers located in the United States or Europe. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in security and service delivery.
Cookies
- Essential: security and caching (always on).
- Analytics (consent-gated in the EU/EEA and the UK): Google
_ga. - No advertising cookies. You can change your choice anytime through the cookie banner or your browser settings.
Your choices and rights
- EU/EEA & UK (GDPR / UK GDPR): access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (the supervisory authority in your country of residence).
- California (CCPA/CPRA) and other US states: the right to know, delete, and correct; to opt out of “sale”/“sharing” (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising); and non-discrimination. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as a valid opt-out.
- Opt out of analytics anytime: decline in the cookie banner (EU/EEA/UK), enable GPC, or email us.
To exercise any right, email privacy@itsfilmatic.com. We do not use your information for automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
International transfers
Some providers (Google, Beehiiv, and our hosting/CDN) may process data in the United States or elsewhere outside the EU/EEA, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
Data retention
First-party recommendation analytics: raw data 90 days, with anonymous aggregates kept longer. Google Analytics: per Google’s retention settings. Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Security logs: as long as needed for security.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Affiliate disclosure
Filmatic participates in affiliate programs. Some links to watch or buy films may earn us a small commission at no additional cost to you. This never influences which films we recommend.
Changes to this policy
We will post updates here and change the “last updated” date above.
